Fonts
When using illustration programs to create graphics, convert type to outlines to minimize output errors and prevent font substitution. However, remember that if type edits are needed later, the converted type is now art and no longer font data, so also save your original files in its native format.
• For the best output results, use PostScript Type I fonts. DO NOT MIX TRUE TYPE WITH POSTSCRIPT TYPE I FONTS.
• Refrain from using True Type whenever possible. Select fonts by name from the font menu. Avoid applying style options or using style buttons, as they may result in incorrect output.
• Be sure you are sending all and only the fonts (screen and printer) required to print your job. Use Collect for Output in Quark XPress, Prepare for Service Bureau in Pagemaker, Package in Adobe Indesign.

Images
• Make sure scanned images are at the correct resolution (dpi) for printing. Min. image resolutionn at final enlargement is 72dpi, 90dpi is preferable.
• Convert RGB images to CMYK before placing in the page layout program. Before converting from RGB to CMYK, please make sure you have right Color Settings in Photoshop.

• It is best to save final images as TIFF or EPS files to place in your layout. If there is no clipping paths, it is better to save as TIFF format.

Layout
• Do not cove up or mask unwanted elements with filled boxes, lines or ovals. The hidden elements are still part of your job and may appear on output.
• Remember that enlarging scans effectively reduces the resolution.
•Avoid "nested" EPS files. Copy and paste elements from one EPS file to another instead of using import or place functions.
• Avoid excessive rotating or sizing of images in the page layout program - it’s best to use Photoshop or your illustration program.
• Make sure proper fold and trim marks are indicated.
• Make sure you allow min. 3mm bleed.
• Once your layout is complete, remove all unwanted objects and elements from the pasteboard and delete unused pages from the application file. These elements may cause output errors as well as unnecessary and costly output.

Submitting Files
• Be sure to include ALL fonts and placed images with your project.
• We support Quark Xpress 6.5, Adobe InDesignCS2, Adobe IllustratorCS2, PhotoshopCS2, Adobe Acrobat 7, Corel Draw 11.
• If submitting PDFs, make sure files are distilled at a high-resolution with fonts embedded.
• Always supply a hardcopy of final approved files
• Be sure to delete any unnecessary paths or channels from images before saving.
• Define colors using the CMYK model for 4-Color process or Pantone PMS numbers for spot colors. Always delete all unused colors from the palette.
• Place all needed files into one folder, place all fonts into a separate folder within that folder.
• If you are submitting viia email (design@bondimagind.com) please compress files using stuffit for Mac or Win Zip for PC.
• Because some programs cannot make pages as large as we can print, you may need to set them up at a percentage. Please note very clearly if this is the case.

• If your document size is:
25% of final size, direct us to print at 400% size, images need to be min. 288dpi (300dpi pref.)
50% of final size, direct us to print at 200% size, images need to be min. 144dpi (180 dpi pref.)
100% of final size, direct us to print at 100% size, images need to be min. 72dpi (90dpi pref.)
• Define page size as a final ("trim") size whenever possible.
• Supply files in CMYK Mode
• If color is “critical,” indicate those colors and their PMS Match(es).
Please provide a proof.

Color Advice
Because computer monitors render colors dfferently than our large format printers, it may be impossible to exactly match the final printed page with what you see on your screen. Also, pigments and calibrations vary among color laser and ink-jet printers, so the printed result may vary from your own color printout.
If your job requires critical color matching (like for clothing or cosmetic colors), or will be printed on a non-paper substrate, please let us know in advance. Such jobs may require extra steps. You may also wish to order “test strips” before committing to full size or quantity printouts.
• For solid black areas & text (bigger then 24pt), create a "super black" defined as 75C 65M 65 Y 93K. This will help achieve a richer black on your finished job.
• Create blends (or gradients) (especially complex ones) in Adobe Photoshop adding Gaussian noise of 4. This step will help reduce “banding” and postscript related problems.
Please do not hesitate to contact our Digital Department if you have any queries.
